GFRC Meets Historical Design Needs

The Taylor Farms Corporate Headquarters has become one of the most prominent buildings in the heart of downtown Salinas, California.  The 97,000 square foot building will house approximately 200 Taylor Farms team members and is expected to help revitalize the downtown area. It will feature restaurants and retail stores on the ground floor and a public plaza – giving a boost to the downtown economy and hospitality industry.  It was necessary to build a project that would conform to the local historical architecture.  Early California construction that typically included intricate and ornate features is something that can be achieved today with Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete.  This project included dentil shapes beneath the roof and 3rd floor crowns, thin brick and tile over GFRC panels, and custom emblems.  Producing a light weight panel skin with very ornate form shapes in GFRC is a very cost effective option.  The long life and durability of GFRC ensures decades of low maintenance costs for the ownership.  This project is a great example of how the contemporary material of GFRC can meet a designer’s historical design choice.
