Architects are always looking for new design options. One of the benefits of Architectural Precast and GFRC is that they both offer virtually limitless design options. Making concrete look like something, other than a flat gray slab for a PCI Certified producer, is simple. With color additives, varied sandblast and polished finishes, or form liners, Architectural Precast can take on the look of Granite, Limestone, Wood, Brick, or any form shape a designer might desire. Perkins and Will Architects decided to take advantage of some of those options for the HCA Riverside Community Hospital Parking Garage. Multiple Colors, a light sandblast finish, and a form liner were used to make this project stand apart from other parking garages. US Formliner Inc. (an Associate PCI West member) provided a form liner that produced a horizontal stacked stone look, for both the charcoal gray and yellow precast. The form liner expression created separate vertical blocked sections of the structure that departs from the typical, “horizontal spandrel panel look”, that is a common design of parking garages. The addition of the curtain wall glazing in the center entrances also gives the feel of an office building. Form liners can be made custom for any project and are not limited to those in a catalog. If you are thinking about a specific texture or form shape for your next Architectural Precast project, contact Willis Construction to discuss your many design options.
