Innovative GFRC Design at 1199 Coleman / Highline

The 1199 Coleman / Highline project, located in San Jose, CA, exemplifies modern architectural excellence through the use of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC). Designed by Gensler and brought to life by Devcon Construction, this project spans 64,600 square feet and consists of 1872 panels and pieces, showcasing the advanced application of GFRC in building design. 

Approximately half of the GFRC total square footage was expertly installed by Willis Construction. The GFRC panels provided a lightweight yet durable solution, ideal for the structural and aesthetic demands of the project. Smaller GFRC pieces were meticulously delivered to the glazer for attachment to the curtain wall glazing system, either at their plant or directly at the jobsite. This method ensured precision and quality control, enhancing the overall finish and integrity of the building’s façade.

The use of GFRC in the 1199 Coleman / Highline project offered numerous benefits, including reduced structural load due to its lightweight nature, ease of installation, and the ability to achieve complex shapes and designs.
